I found a book in the catalog, but it has an unfamiliar acronym/library location. Where is it?

Answer

Our books and other materials are organized in multiple sections within the library. In addition, some items in our catalog are located at other libraries on campus or at other institutions. Some of the acronyms or shelving areas you might come across in the library catalog are listed below. If you need additional help, please stop by Reference or Access Services (both desks near Copley main entrance) or contact us online.

 

Copley Library (CL) sections

CL Book Stacks -- this shelving category encompasses most of our book collection. See our maps to find where specific call number ranges are located

CL Journal Stacks -- our print journals, located in Camino wing lower level

CL Light Reading -- bestsellers, located in Copley wing main level behind the reference collection

CL Maps -- included in our Reference Collection, located in map shelving and cabinets near the reference desk on Copley wing main level.

CL Media Cabinet -- DVDs, CDs, and CD-ROMs, in Copley wing main level along the west wall

CL Newspapers -- most recent print issues, request at Access Services Desk (Copley main floor)

CL Oversize Bks. -- oversized books located in Camino wing lower level along the north east wall

CL Reference/CL Ref. Desk -- Reference Collection, located near the reference desk on Copley wing main level. Facing the desk, CL Ref. Desk is on the small bookshelf to the right, and CL Reference is on the book shelves to the left

CL Pre-Shelving -- Copley wing lower level, this section currently holds our photography books

CL Reserve/CL Perm Reserve -- library course reserves, request at Access Services Desk (Copley main floor)

CL South Group Study Room --  Copley wing main level, currently holds oversized books on music, fine arts, and photography (call numbers M, N, and TR)

CL Technical Services -- VHS tapes and a small selection of other materials are located here, request at Access Services Desk (Copley main floor). New items being processed and items being repaired are also in this area

Copley Special Collections Stacks -- Camino wing upstairs, open by appointment only

Copley University Archives -- Camino wing upstairs, open by appointment only



Collections not in Copley Library

Hoehn collection/stacks -- USD’s Hoehn Print Study Room, in Founder’s Hall, Room 102

FST (FST Stacks/Franciscana Collection/etc.) -- Franciscan School of Theology, in Oceanside, CA

IPJ Collection -- USD’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, across the street diagonally from Copley Library

LRC Reading Room -- USD’s Pardee Legal Research Center, near the East Campus Entrance

UFMC/WC -- USD’s United Front Multicultural Center and Women's Center Library, Student Life Pavillion, Room 418
