Does the Library own the art and historical documents collection of James S. Copley?

We do not own this collection as this is Copley Library at the University of San Diego. There was another Copley Library located in La Jolla that contained the private art and historical documents collection of James S. Copley. That library is no longer in existence. The Copley Collection materials were auctioned off by Sotheby’s in 2010. Here is an article with further information about the sale of the Copley Collection. We frequently receive questions about this as there are sources that still list it as an existing library/collection.
